Link Logistics Virtual Event Focuses on LGBTQIA+ Understanding

Pride, Link Logistics’ LGBTQIA+ employee resource group, recently hosted a virtual event featuring CFO Matt Ostrower in conversation with James Barnes, also known as “The Trans Coach.” Barnes is a keynote speaker and transition expert who uses lessons from his own transition to deliver LGBTQIA+ education and help people and organizations increase their ability to navigate change. He and Ostrower discussed empathy, the importance of creating an environment where all individuals feel understood and empowered, and what we can do at Link Logistics to be allies to the LGBTQIA+ community.

“James is a fantastic person, and I enjoyed our conversation,” said Ostrower. “While society has made remarkable progress in its understanding of the LGBTQIA+ community over the past several years, there is still work to be done to ensure everyone gets the respect they deserve.”

Pride’s mission is to build an open and inclusive environment for LGBTQIA+ employees and allies. Having conversations around identity and personal experience can foster understanding and empathy that helps approach complex ideas in our personal and professional lives. By welcoming differences, we seek to ensure every employee feels comfortable and confident bringing their whole, authentic self to work.

“Any time a company hosts me outside of Pride Month in June, it really gets me excited, because it shows they are committed to change,” said Barnes, who has previously spoken at organizations including Comcast, Lyft, Twilio and Zendesk. “I want to really alter how cultures are in the workplace, because when I started my transition eight years ago things were very different. Many companies were not as embracing of differences as they are today.”
